RHINOPLASTY
The nose is a midface structure, perfect shape and size of nose will add beauty and balance to the face. Deformed nose will make the disturbed facial profile and make the person self-conscious.
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure will be performed to correct the shape, to improve the appearance and also to correct any functional abnormalities.
The presentation of each patient wants to undergo rhinoplasty is different requiring customised planning for everyone.
some common presentations include
Dorsal Hump — excessive hump like curved nasal bone.
Saddle Nose — depressed nasal bone and cartilaginous structure
Broad Nose — broad and bulky lower portion of nose with poorly supported tip.
Bulbous tip — overtly thick skin at the tip resulting in the amorphous tip,
Crocked nose — curved to one side mostly because of previous trauma.
Minimum age limit to undergo rhinoplasty is 18 as facial profile keeps on changing till the growing age ends,
Some of the common procedure done to correct nasal shape either individually or combined to give perfect shape include
- Straightening or augmentation of nasal dorsum either with implant or with cartilage
- The removal of the bony hump on the nose in case of dorsal hump
- Correction of the tip of the nose
- Correcting the size and shape of the nostrils
- Opening or widening of the valve in nose for breathing passage.
Rhinoplasty Procedure: -
will be done under general anaesthesia, patients are advised to come overnight fasting and procedure can be done as day-care surgery or one night stay will be sufficient.
can be done in 2 ways
Open Rhinoplasty: -
preferable when correcting more than one element or to do tip corrections. But incision run across columella.
Closed rhinoplasty:-
preferable if minimal corrections are needed. No external incision is given
You can appreciate the outcome immediately after removing the dressing but can appreciate final outcome only after 6 to 9 months.
